降钙素原 (PCT) 是一种由116个氨基酸组成的降钙素多肽激素原。

PCT主要由甲状腺的C细胞合成，在其他器官如肺和肠的神经内分泌组织中也有少量合成。正常情况下，血液中的降钙素原水平非常低 [3]。

然而，炎性细胞因子特别是细菌内毒素（如脓毒症时）可在几乎任何器官中刺激PCT的产生，导致大量的降钙素原释放到血液中。因此PCT水平可被用作脓毒症等的生物标志物。PCT水平越高，全身感染和脓毒症的可能性越大 [3]。
